The Terrace Of Elephants

The Khmer Empire’s Buckingham Palace, National Mall and Champs-Élysées all rolled into one. It was from here that the Kings of the Khmer Empire held ceremonial events and parades, often with feasting as an important element of the festivities. Terrace of the Elephants is an impressive, 2.5 m tall by 300 m long terrace adorned with carved elephants and garudas (a mythical bird; half-man, half eagle) that spans the heart of the ancient city of Angkor Thom. Its former name was the “Royal Terrace” and it is over 900 years old.

You will be amazed by how beautiful it is light by candles and torches at night, and the ancient traditional performances will transport you back to the Khmer Empire at the height of its power.

Guests will be welcomed to the sound of atmospheric drums and with a refreshing cocktail at the entrance to Baphuon Temple. Then they will be led by candlelight and torchlight through this beautiful temple to the dining area in front of the terrace. Drinks and dinner will be served to the accompaniment of traditional music and the graceful Royal Apsara dance.

Jayavarman himself would have approved of our gala dinners held at this important ceremonial site.  Your group can be as large as his entire aristocratic entourage and feast just as the Royal Court did millennia ago. This is the ultimate dining experience in an ancient royal ceremonial setting.

Groups of up to 2000 can be accommodated for an amazing Gala Dinner from 6 until 10.30 pm.
